DANGEROUS STRUCTURES
Complaints about possible dangerous structures are investigated immediately. Our staff are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to deal with any incident relating to a building. If you have concerns about a building please contact the team via the contact us page.
Where our responsibilities overlap with other Emergency Services, a close liaison is maintained to ensure safety at all times. If it is necessary to deal with any immediate danger we can arrange for our own emergency contractor to carry out the work.
Some structures become dangerous when buildings are being renovated or altered. This type of danger usually occurs when the building is of great age and does not respond well to insensitive alterations.
Our surveyors have found that the most common causes of collapse are:
Removal of lateral restraint to walls
Failure of over-stressed piers
Inadequate support to chimney breasts
Filling flues with concrete
Using existing brick walls as permanent Shuttering to new concrete work
Sheeted scaffolds acting as sails in strong winds and pulling down the wall to which the scaffolding is attached
Undermining of foundations, usually by underpinning which is badly designed and/or poorly sequenced
overloading of floors by builders' materials
Roof 'spreading' or collapsing due to the new coverings being too heavy for the structure to sustain

DEMOLITION
The demolition of a building brings major hazards especially when the building or structure is located close to other buildings and live working environments.
The type of demolition scaffolding we provide is dictated by the contractors chosen method of demolition which often means a full encapsulation of the building incorporating dust and falling debris measures.
With many local authorities carrying out major redevelopments of large housing estates it involves the demolition of high rise tower blocks. These blocks are often very close to each other and therefore space around them is often restricted.
Therefore the usual method of demolition is 'top down'. This involves demolishing the building floor by floor.
Our demolition division can also provide full building encapsulation covered in shrink wrap, Monarflex or debris netting as well as debris fans and anti climb measures are incorporated.

Encapsulations & ADVERTISING
We provide various types of encapsulations to suit any requirements, including Shrink wrap, Monarflex , netting & hoardings.
An encapsulation involves covering a structure with a sheeting or hoarding to provide protection against adverse weather conditions & contamination. There are various encapsulations available to suit every project / need.
Shrink Wrap involves covering the entire structure in wrap and exposing it to heat to produce a drum tight effect. This provides protection and a weather tight environment for those operatives working on the project. Shrink wrap differs from Monarflex sheeting as the welds are melted to form one complete outer robust skin. Shrink wrap is particularly beneficial for projects which secure temporary roof systems, Long term projects where resistance to changing weather conditions is essential and sensitive / highly populated busy public spaces where additional containment & privacy are required.
Monarflex sheeting is the traditional tough robust sheeting common associated with scaffold projects. It ensures that project work continues in virtually all weather conditions, protecting operatives & the project from rain, snow and wind chill. There are various options of Monarflex sheeting available from Acoustic Insulating Scaffold Sheeting to LPCB approved flame retardant options.
Netting is a versatile product that can be used for a range of projects, it is generally used in the same way as Monarflex sheeting and provides protection from falling debris.
Hoardings are a way to secure a site where the perimeter is surrounded by scaffolding, providing a hard robust outer layer to provide protection to the project, operatives & the public. Hoardings often include a soffit for protection against falling objects and a fascia to cover up the scaffolding. All hoarding will come with a hoarding certificate and a design and will built to our clients specification.
Most encapsulations can be branded for advertising, promotions or aesthetics. From full building wraps to prominent eye catching advertising. This has been a tactic employed by large blue chip companies to turn project works into a marketing opportunity like none other.
